Jul. 30th, 2005 @ 11:56 pm The Amazing Race: St. Petersburg...wow...
Bob's Mood: soresore
Bob's Music: "Times Like These"-Foo Fighters
Today was the Amazing Race: St. Petersburg, and due to the fact that it was amazing, I felt compelled to post about it upon my livejournal.

*WARNING-This post is a half rant/half praise. I ENJOYED THE AMAZING RACE THOROUGHLY. This is where I vent. The end.*

So, Mandi and I, along with our trusted sidekick Masatoshi Charles Mochizuki started out the morning with a full cooler of water, fresh faces, and optimism to boot. Five hours later, we would be crawling to the finish line, crying all the way there cuz we finally made it. What happened to this group that was once full of joy? Well, I'll tell you...

It all started at the pier at 11 am this morning. Our race then lead us through lots of twists and turns. First, our cameras *yes, cameras, we had two* died, and so we got almost no footage of the car rides or the race in general. But we left the pier and our clues took us to Pinellas Point *past Lakewood*, and after that, to Gulfport *definitely took interstate to get to that bad boy*. We were gaining speed and in first place. Then, to the dreaded mall...Tyrone Square Mall. We look for a roaster at Sears, not knowing that a roaster was a pan, not an oven. Then, we were penalized because Masa was with us writing down answers and figures. But just to let people know, yes, Masa wrote down answers, but when it came to finding anything, Mandi and I were the ones who found the clues. But anyways, we were penalized ten minutes which started another adventure to the grave of Thomas McQueen *btw- I HATE CEMETARIES. I've never liked them, I never will like them. It's a thing of being creeped out by mass quantities of dead people*. No problem. Arby's. No problem. Lake Sawgrass. No Problem. we were back in the game. Then, the beginning of the end-Cresent Lake Park. The dreaded Roadblock. The now-slightly-fatigued Katie and Mandi were only being supported by the ever-cheerful Masatoshi. and when the checkpoint was reached we were told that we needed to run once around Cresent Lake. Now two things to keep in mind: 1)Mandi and I are tired as ballz. On top of that, we don't run. We swing dance on wednesday nights for exercise, we don't run. 2) We had been running around all day and had run out of water. Now, we still powerwalked/crawled around the 2 mile perimeter of Cresent Lake Park, and then we are asked to solve a math problem that we can't use pen, paper, or calculator on. Here is the problem *the answer is at the bottom of the entry, so you don't cheat and decide you wanna figure it out*

5280 x 3 - 15000/10 - 50/2 - 7000 x 2 - 49 x 3 - 25 x 5

In your head. And don't cheat. So we figure it out after three tries, and we head, still with slight enthusiasm hidden under horrid pain and agony along with a self-esteem blow *bringing back those days in elementary school when you were the only kid who couldn't finish the lap because you were puffing on ur inhaler...yeah, that was me*, to the Sunshine Center. Now, you may ask, WHERE IS THE SUNSHINE CENTER?! So we go searching, and we find the Center, and we continue the rest on foot. On our way, we obtained a downtown map on Beach Drive, so we search for the War Veteran's Memorial. Well, we find the memorial on Bay Pines, and we figure, that's not it, we wouldn't be on foot if it were in Bay Pines. So we go searching. Little did we know that in Downtown St. Pete, we would meet up with HOBO MAN...yes, Hobo Man, in his parasol hat so cleverly used in the EXCRUTIATINGLY DRAINING heat. And it was horrible, because I have the sunburn to prove it. The hobo was such a *nice person*, he even complimented us by saying that he would "take four of those on a sesame seed bun to go" *commenting on our breasts, since we took off our creative team shirts*. So, we realize that we're running in circles, and we finally realize that the memorial is INSIDE hoboland. Aka Hobo Park. By this time, an hour and a half have passed, and Katie, Mandi, and Masa even are feeling the side effects of DYING. SLOWLY. but, we realize that after about three more checkpoints, we are close to the final checkpoint-Pioneer Park. Once seen, the horribly exhausted trio gain a newfound strength with their battle cry of "PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKK". Finally, we finish the race...in tenth place. Out of eleven teams. At least we weren't last?=D

If I've learned anything from this race, it's that the Fast and the Fabulous will never quit, even in the face of exhaustion, depression, and moral degradation. And as a gift to these wonderful people who The Fast and the Fabulous will never forget, we create:

THE AMAZING RACE: LARGO/SEMINOLE

Yes, each contestant will battle through the harsh pedestrian-UNfriendly streets of Seminole and Largo searching for clues and racing to the finish line. Note: this Amazing Race is seperate from the Amazing Races created by Kevin McQueen and Chris Futch. It is run by Katie Heffner and Mandi Feld. If you are interested, this race will be held Summer 2006. you can contact me sometime before then at any time if you're interested.

To Kevin and Chris: You have made my senior year a true joy. Even though I leave for college in three weeks, you have given me so many memories that I will never forget. Thank you, and it's times like these, we learn to live again...

And the answer is 43...the end

yeah, except for the fact that I can't feel my legs. It's like, when you hurt yourself from falling out of a tree, and you go "Let's Do It Again!"=D
