Dec. 23rd, 2006 @ 12:29 pm A Commentary on Apocalypto and Katherine...very good movies, you should go watch them...

I saw Apocalypto today...funny, I didn't see too much of a difference between their society and our current society. Sure, we have running water and electricity, but cmon, how many "get up quick" creams and lotions do we have that help *fertility*? When I saw the modern day depiction of the ancient city, all I could think of was how unequally our class systems are divided, and moreso how our society is a society of excess...back then, it was *more human sacrifices*, now it's *biggie fries* or *more toilet paper on each roll*. When will we as a society realize that spending more money on expensive lifestyles or letting others suffer for our own well being doesn't lead us into becoming a benevolent society? I understand that people use the system, they corrupt the government, use their government aid on expensive jewelry instead of on their starving child, push the middle and lower classes out of cities like St. Petersburg, but is there a way to sift through the population, find the users, the abusers, the greedy, and help the people who really need it? Or would those users and abusers be the first ones to rise up, start violent revolts? What our society needs is a reality check, but not a violent one. Educate the people, change our class systems, stop the excess. If we can teach our children how to accept and share what we have, instead of teaching them to act their age, or race, or creed, or class, we could rebuild our society.

...yeah, I've been watching too many movies about revolution...I feel like a dirty hippie...
